compliments.

While at my clinical on saturday, we were passing out breakfast meds when this sweet old man tapped me on the arm and goes, "excuse me miss, but i would just like to compliment you on your hair color. Its so beautiful." Thanks sweet man! it sure made my day. Now i am going to find someone to compliment! oh and try to think of a 1-3 minute presentation for my interview at the hospital on thursday! any ideas? It can be on anything.

That is so sweet. I love the color too! You could do your presentation on bedside manner/introduction. It was my biggest pet-peeve when a new nurse would come in after a shift change and not introduce herself. It made me feel very uneasy. I think it's a very important part that should not be overlooked.

I love a genuine compliment. It makes you feel so good.

Awww...and the bedside manner idea from Mama Blogger is a wonderful idea. I think some of our biggest fears when we are in the hospital is whether our nurse is nice or not! A warm hello and introduction makes a huge difference.

You could even quote a few of us, which shows that you really do care about what patients think.

Great ideas... bedside manner is a plus. These comments made me think of our favorite nurse when Riley was at UCLA. Her name was Candy and she was the best. She completely understood that while our child was so ill, we were somewhat ill too. She eased our mind in so many ways. She gave us confidence in what WE needed to do, because we truly knew what was best for Riley. She helped us gain the confidence to question the doctors and ultimately those questions helped us all find Riley's diagnosis and eventual cure. I thank Candy for all of that. She was an answer to prayers.
