dinner to die for.

I don't know about you, but I love my fried food...and my chik-fil-a. so i decided to try out a pinterest recipe of the Chik-Fil-A nuggets and sauce. i don't usually post recipes but this is my favorite one i've made in a long time! and A couple of girls around here have been making it too lately and one of my friends has this delicious cooking blog (she's quite the cook!) so I found her recipe too: HERE  and combined THIS one for the sauce.  YUM. seriously it was so good! i pulled out my deep fryer and these puppies turned out perfect.

SAUCE:
1/2 cup mayo
2 tbsp. mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. honey
1 tbsp. BBQ sauce
(I doubled the recipe since we were having friends over)

NUGGETS:
2 large chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup dill pickle juice
1 egg
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup whole-wheat flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon malted milk powder
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
(once again i double this recipe)

*Let chicken marinate in combined milk, pickle juice, and egg for a couple hours (don't worry it will NOT taste like pickles- my hubs hates pickles and he couldn't even tell- it helps keep the moisture!)

*mix all dry ingredients in a big plastic bag (i didn't use malted milk powder, and i used one kind of flour) add chicken and shake it up!

*I used my deep fryer and popped them in for 3-5 min and they were done. you could easily do it on the stove too though!

oh and this feed 4 adults with a bunch of leftovers (on a doubled recipe!)

9 MONTHS!

Happy 9 months to my beautiful baby girl Hazel!!! as i say every month and i will say it every month i cannot believe how quickly time passes! on Thursday 9/27 hazel will be exactly 40 weeks old. since she was born on her due date.. on friday she will officially have been out of the womb longer than she was in. that is crazy to think about. i asked Jason which way has gone by quicker and we both agreed having here has gone by much quicker!

Being a mom is the BEST. i love watching hazel learn new things everyday.

at 9 months Hazel is:

17lbs 11 oz. (42%)

27 1/4 inches long (36%)

and head circumference of 45 cm (79%)

*she is still exclusively breast fed a lot (6+ times a day)
*she crawls, stands up anywhere and everywhere, stands without holding on to anything
*she just wants to take off running. she wants to hold your hands and walk everywhere
*she loves all kinds of food but especially dried strawberries, hot dogs, meat sticks, gerber cheese puffs, yogurt, blueberries, and is a pro at feeding herself those  baby food  that they can suck out
*she has two bottom teeth and i think a  top right one is about to cut
*she wears size 3 diapers, still fits in all her 9 month clothing and just starting on some 12 m clothing
*she says mama, mom, dada, baba, gaga and all other babbling noises
*i don't know if she knows what she is actually saying but when i get her from naps she will be standing up at the corner of her crib closest to the door yelling , "ma ma ma ma"
*she enjoys some cartoons, she could watch the intro to Jake and the Neverland pirates over and over
*she has  had more falls, cuts, scrapes, bruises and tears from her new mobility than ever  before.
*she is pretty clingy
*she can crawl up all the stairs in  record time if i forget to close the baby gate
*she eats A N Y T H I N G she can find
*i found a PAPERCLIP, a normal sized paperclip, in her poop the other day (not proud of this)
*she loves to try to 'play' with the other kids
*she enjoys the swings at the park
*hazel prefers to be outside
*hazel loves her baths
*she sleeps from 8pm-7am with a couple 1-2 hr naps a day
*she wakes up most nights just talking and playing so i have been trying to not get her and she just goes back to sleep
*she  is starting to really understand what i am saying , like we play peek-a-boo and i say where is hazel and she will duck her head, or if she is crawling away i will say i'm gunna getcha and she crawls faster until i get her and then giggles her head off.
*she loves going upside down
*she is ticklish and giggly!

I LOVE every second i get with my hazel. Being a stay at home mom is truly rewarding and so the best. the house isn't always spotless or hardly ever spotless but we have a lot of fun and if money wasn't an issue i think i could stay home forever! it is not easy but she makes it all worth it. she makes me want to have a lot of kids.

CHicago

Last week Hazel and I got to take a quick trip to visit auntie Erin and uncle Pete!!! It was so much fun! We arrived Thursday and there was a car waiting at the airport for us (I definitely felt like a celebrity!) it took us right to Erin's where she was taking pictures of us as the car rolled in haha. That evening we had yummy Thai food and watched the bears game at Pete's. Friday we slept in then went to lunch after lunch Erin had to work so hazel and I walked down Michigan doing some window shopping. We had delicious Mexican food for dinner hazel especially loved the beans- they must have been filling because she slept from 9-7 that night. That's rare on vacation! Saturday we went and worked out at east bank club. Where Oprah works out. I didn't see her though. Erin has seen her a couple times though it's a pretty snazzy place! We then flew home to a super clean house (except a non- made bed! That's Jason's favorite thing when I am gone is to not make the bed) haha. Thanks Erin for such a fun fun trip!!!!!

Pinterest addict

Hello, my name is Devyn and I am addicted to pinterest. I have mixed feelings about pinterest.. it can be very depressing.. but it can also be incredibly uplifting. I have made a points to only pin and search for uplifting things. Pins that will make me be better, more creative, use what i already have, more recipes.. instead of COVETING things that i WANT or AMAZING houses that i will only ever dream of. I am trying to pin things that are realistic.. like outfits i could put together from my own closet or ideas about outfits. Pinterest is also my GO TO for dinner each night and for DIY projects. I try to not dwell on things i cannot have but things that i have. i also LOVE the quotes that are pinned on pinterest. So the good outweighs the bad, so i approve of my own addiction. ha.

okay so on to the real deal: I will now be Pinning as LABORLOOKS on pinterest. so FOLLOW me here: FOLLOW ME!!!!! once LaborLooks reaches 300 followers on pinterest they will be doing an AMAZING giveaway you won't want to miss!!

where were you?

A day that will never be forgotten, September 11, 2001. 11 years later and I guarantee everyone reading this post will remember exactly where they were on this tragic day. I was in middle school at redwood and in every class the news was on that day. Where were YOU?

Give some extra hugs and kisses to your loved ones today. and make sure you tell them you love them, every chance you get.

Updates on the little basement salon

It still has a long way to go but I now have a fully functioning salon in the basement! Curtains still need to be hung to hide the water heater and washer/dryer and we may take a little wall out and I need to organize my stuff a bit better and get some shelves up above the sink but I did a few clients this week and it works great!!! I'm so happy with it and love that I have my own space :)

Flu shots

Have you gotten your flu shot this year? What? You think it's too early?? No way! Never too early ;) it take 2-3 weeks for the immunization to kick in and it lasts up to a year! Don't you wish I could give you your flu shot? I wish I could too! This past week started flu shot clinics for me. I sit at Walmart and sams club for hours and wait for you to come to me... It's a job I don't have regular shifts but I am grateful for some work even though I miss these cuties while I am away (oh and check out Jason's dessert one night!!)
